The science of human faces is known as Facial Anthropology and deals with evolutionary biology, physical variation, and classification of faces and skulls. It includes forensic, archaeological facial reconstruction, and skull re-assembly. Facial reconstruction, i.e., the process of reproducing the facial appearance of an individual, has been employed to "bring alive the faces of people from history." It can also be used to illustrate disease, trauma and facial deformity in a historical context. Facial reconstruction is especially useful in forensic investigations. Sometimes, the usual methods utilized for human identification fail and there maybe few clues as to the identity of an individual. In such cases, facial reconstruction is helpful for identification.
