Microbiologists paint detailed works of art on agar. Various strains of bacteria from the human skin and body cavities are grown on petri dishes. The microbes react and spread across carefully drawn patterns. It is not an easy process as the bacteria are different species, with each species growing and eating differently; some do not become colorful immediately, and other bacteria become old and then get their color.
The result is truly stunning demonstrating that there is always an element of art in science.
